Dinacharya

Dinacharya for modern US life

Maha Prishna on daily rhythm — classical Ayurveda, Mexican soul, US schedules that actually stick.

“Rhythm before hustle.”

Daily rhythm is medicine

Dinacharya means daily routine. In the Ashtanga Hridaya (Vagbhata), lifestyle chapters treat wake time, oral care, oil, movement, bathing, and meal timing as clinical tools — not wellness accessories. Traditional teaching adapts cleanly to US life when we keep the logic and drop the fantasy of a monastery schedule.

Morning block (even on a workday)

Clinic dinacharya cards start simple: wake, scrape tongue, warm water; optional oil pulling if prescribed. Tongue scraping takes about two minutes and turns Ama into a daily report. If Laura indicates abhyanga, warm sesame oil is the default for Vata; coconut oil when Pitta or hot season runs high. You do not need a spa — fifteen to twenty-five minutes before a shower on three mornings a week already shifts the nervous system.

Midday: when Agni is strongest

Traditional teaching places the main meal when digestive fire is strong — typically midday. For remote workers that can mean a real sit-down lunch; for office days, a warm thermos caldo or leftover soup beats a cold desk salad on iced coffee. Eat after prior food is digested (jeerne). Laura’s Hot Vata-Manas Smoothie (almond milk, dates, cinnamon, ginger) is a morning option that stays warm, unctuous, and seated — Charaka’s pace rules in a blender cup.

Movement without burning the candle

Ashtanga-style rhythm favors moderate exercise before the day scatters you — enough to wake Kapha, not enough to scrap your Agni for lunch. Yoga and walks fit US mornings; HIIT stacked on skipped breakfast often recreates Vata chaos. Protect the bath/shower as a reset, not another rush.

Evening wind-down

Dim lights, warm tea, earlier bedtime. Seed advice: protect sleep as Vata medicine. Light evening nasya appears in clinic protocols only when Laura prescribes it — never self-dose strong nasal oils. A light dinner and screen boundary do more for tomorrow’s tongue than another late snack.

A realistic US template

Weekday minimum: tongue scrape + warm water; one warm midday meal seated; no ice with food; lights down 60 minutes before bed.
Upgrade days: add abhyanga 3×/week; cook one Laura-style soup (depuradora or desintoxicante); journal tongue + energy.
When rhythm still breaks under stress, book a consult — dinacharya blocks in your plan will match your timezone, kitchen, and Agni type.
