Jihwa Pariksha

Your tongue tells the truth first

In classical Ayurveda, jihwa pariksha — examination of the tongue — is a core diagnostic window into Agni, Ama, and dosha weather. Maha Prishna hosts the literacy map below; Laura reads clinical photos in consult. Educational only — no Tongue nav tab. Click regions and signs, then prepare clear photos for intake.

Tongue photo: natural light, morning if you can, before coffee or brushing. Close-up of the full tongue, relaxed, tip down.

Classical framing

Before labs and before trends, physicians looked at the tongue every morning. Jihwa is part of a fuller exam (alongside pulse, elimination, voice, and touch). Coating shows incomplete digestion (Ama). Color shows heat or depletion. Cracks and moisture show vata dryness or kapha damp. Laura never treats a single mark in isolation — she pairs the tongue with Agni, stools, sleep, and your kitchen story.

Kitchen hands

Kitchen clues matter: late chile dinners, iced drinks with tortillas, skipped breakfast — the tongue often tells that story by morning.

“Morning film tells the night’s story.”

Fast signal

Changes overnight. A scrape (jihwa nirlekhana) and a morning photo become a daily check-in without expensive gadgets.

Whole-system hint

Regions correspond to organ territories in classical mapping — stomach center, liver sides, heart tip, root for lower gut and kidneys.

Plan fuel

What she sees shapes spices, meal timing, oils, and whether you need kindling or calming for Agni — including Mexican kitchen swaps.

What Laura looks for

  • Coating thickness and color relative to time of day (before coffee, after scrape).
  • Geographic patches, tooth marks (scalloping), and asymmetry between sides.
  • How the tongue matches your hunger, stools, skin, and mood that week.
  • Kitchen clues — late chile-heavy dinners, iced drinks, skipped breakfast — that explain the picture.
Not a diagnosis. This map is educational — literacy for consults, not a self-diagnosis tool. Tongue signs are interpreted in clinical context by a qualified practitioner. They do not replace medical care, labs, or emergency services. If you have acute pain, bleeding, or sudden changes, seek licensed medical attention.

For your consult

Prepare tongue photos for intake

When you book, Laura will ask for tongue photos with your intake. Practice selecting files here so you know the flow. On the live site, photos attach securely to your chart — never a public gallery.

Photo tips: natural light · mouth relaxed · tip slightly down · no filter · morning preferred (before coffee). One front view + one wider view if coating is thick at the root.

No file selected yet — pick one or two clear shots to rehearse.

Nothing uploads from this page. After you book and pay, intake instructions will tell you exactly where to send photos for Laura’s review.
